Ellhorn Press specializes in books concerning the arts of magic (historical and practical), astrology, complementary healing, psychic development, energy work of all kinds, and the ritual arts. Our name grows from the medieval term for the Elder Tree, which was considered to be both the guardian of the Underworld and the medicine chest of the common people.
We are an author’s cooperative rather than a commercial press. As holistic and occult arts grow, so does the need for specialized small-market books. Financial pressure prevents many publishers from printing books which do not have very broad market appeal. As a small volunteer-based organization, Ellhorn Press is able to offer high-quality books targeted to very specific audiences.
Technically we are a writer’s cooperative, not a publisher. We screen books for the quality of the writing, the quality of the material presented, and the relevance of the writing to our audience, and we assure a professional finished product. Books are printed and distributed in cooperation with Lulu.com. International shipping is available for all books. In many countries, books will be sent from local affiliates to reduce shipping cost. We find that this model works well for authors who know their audiences intimately but have not had luck with mainstream publishing.
